The Netherlands has a long tradition of painting. The works of Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Mondrian and many other Dutch masters are known throughout the world. Modern Dutch painters and sculptors have been extremely successful in keeping up this tradition. Contemporary Dutch artists are usually well represented at international events such as the Biennale in Venice and the Documenta in Kassel.
